It is University policy to reasonably ensure that the rights and welfare of human participants are adequately protected in research conducted under its auspices. In addition, both federal and state laws require this protection. In order for the University to fulfill its responsibility, all human participants research conducted under University auspices must receive appropriate review and approval.
The University has authorized the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to review and approve human participants research. The IRB is a campus-wide committee made up of faculty, administrators, and at least one non-institutional member.
New IRB Application Process for Antioch University
There is a new application process for submitting materials to the AUNE Institutional Review Board. The new application is part of the move to the University Portal system.
Overview of the new process
The application is accessed through the AU Portal at http://portal.antioch.edu. Log in using your AUeID (if you haven’t set up your eID yet, you can do this at http://access.antioch.edu). After logging in, you will see a welcome page to Antioch University New England. In the top left hand corner of the page you will see a little house iconand the words Antioch University. Click on the house or the words. That opens up the Antioch University welcome page. To find the IRB application, click on the tab near the top called “Teaching & Learning Commons” then select “IRB – Human Research Application Process.” This takes you to the home page of the Antioch University system IRB, where you will find directions throughout the pages, including a box that says “Before you get started” that summarizes the application process. Additionally, there are links to the Policy Manual, sample documents, ethics training modules, and the online application.
One of the biggest changes is that hard copies no longer need to be submitted — the online application includes electronic signatures. Once an application is started, it can be saved along the way. In addition, you can email the application to yourself from the initial Applications tab. Before submitting the project (using the “submit for review” button on the Submission tab) email the application to yourself and have your advisor and departmental representative review the application materials.
